Between the Bays Festival Line Up
This year’s festival line up reads like a who’s who from Melbourne’s pub scene in the 1980’s proving that age is no barrier when it comes to making music. Diesel, Joe Camillieri & the Black Sorrows, Nick Barker and Stephen Cummings are all on the bill along with well known singer Deborah Conway. The crowd can expect to hear past hits as well as new material.
Diesel
Diesel, one of Australia’s favourite rock sons, returns to perform songs from his new album Days Like These at this year's Between the Bays Music Festival. Diesel, aka Mark Lizotte, has been playing the traps for more than twenty years. In the mid-1980’s Australian audiences met 'Diesel' for the first time as the lead singer and guitarist of Johnny Diesel and the Injectors.
This line up supported some of Australia’s biggest rock stars at that time including Jimmy Barnes, ex-lead singer of Cold Chisel. When the Injectors broke up in 1990 Diesel went solo. Since that time he’s experimented with various musical forms including the blues.
Joe Camilleri and the Black Sorrows
Joe Camilleri has been performing for more than forty years in one guise or another. His Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons was an iconic Aussie pub band in the eighties. An accomplished saxophonist, songwriter and vocalist, Camilleri has been entertaining since 1964. He says making music gives him the freedom to get lost in the moment, to transport him to another place.
Stephen Cummings
A veteran of 19 albums Stephen Cummings entered the collective consciousness of Australian rock fans in the mid-seventies with his band The Sports. Before this he had played with rockabilly band the Pelaco Brothers, along with Joe Camilleri.
When the Sports broke up in the early 1980’s Cummings launched his solo career. Since that time he has turned his hand to writing novels as well as songs.
In interview Cummings told the Sunday programme that what keeps him in the music industry is “the kick of doing it. That's still really powerful for me."
Nick Barker
Starting off his musical career in punk band the Wreckery, Barker came to prominence with Nick Barker and The Reptiles in the late 1980’s a band compared in style to Guns n’ Roses.
Going solo in 1994 Barker broke away from the ‘Gunners’ mould and has effectively carved himself a position in the Australian music industry as a seasoned performer and respected songwriter. He has toured through South America – the Reptiles were huge in Brazil along with other Australian bands including Men at Work – and supported George Thorogood & the Destroyers on their national tour in 2005.

Between the Bays Music Festival also provides ample opportunity for the Mornington Peninsula to showcase its food and wine. Festival goers can indulge in locally made cheeses, gourmet sausages, Moroccan influenced dishes, and fish from the Flying Calamari Brothers.
